Oh for the love of.........
Friends, Romans, Fl*sters, I'm here tonight seeking you help and counsel. LJ has gone bloody strange on me, this morning as I logged on to check what had been happening on planet fangirl I got this mesage.....

Access Denied

Either you are trying to access a page you do no not have permission to
view or your ip address is banned. If you feel this is in error, please
email support at webmaster@livejournal.com with the bulleted information

# /Client IP:
# Client User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:32.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/32.0
# Error code: swlb-403

So I fired off an e mail and sadly had to go out for the day.  When I returned I still couldn't log on, I changed my browser and nothing and then I switched my router on and off and suddenly hey presto LJ was back.  Like a fool i let myself relax and then tonight as I checked my email I got this response from Frank and co.....

Thank you for your inquiry. This IP address was blocked because we noticed a large amount of malicious traffic originating from this IP address. As this block was affecting legitimate users of the site, we have temporarily unblocked this IP address, and you should now be able to access the site properly.

However, please be aware that should this malicious activity continue, we may re-ban the IP address in the future. In many cases, this activity is caused by a computer using the IP address unknowingly being infected with malware.

We therefore highly recommend that you make sure that your computer is current on all updates and that you perform a scan with the anti-virus or anti-malware programs of your choice. Additionally, you may wish to contact your ISP to inform them that there is high levels of suspicious activity on this IP, since they may be able to take preventative action as well.

Ok now what the flying fuck!!!!!!!

So I did the scan and I've even rung Sky and told them about this.  I even admitted that Steve's tablet doesn't have Anti Virus and could this be the problem, and according to Sky everything their end is fine.  No inordinate amounts of suspicios malware attempting to throttle Frank to death, and they suggested I contact LJ and ask them what are they on about.

Have any of you had this problem before? And should I be worried that at any moment I'm going to loose you all....... Hang on I've gone faint, god what a horrible thought. Also hould I buy new anti virus for Steve's tablet

So before I vanish, can anyone help me?

All I know is if he's on an Android tablet, you can get a decent anti virus for free. AVG, if I remember correctly?

Ok thank you for that, I'll look into sorting something out for him.

DON'T VANISH!! *throws arms around your legs*

Maybe you should email damn Frank again and tell them what Sky told you. Because they told you there IS NO PROBLEM. Whatever LJ is seeing isn't apparently happening. And if something is happening it isn't your fault!!

Some little info about IPs...
When you're at home, an IP address is assigned to your computer by your Internet service provider (think Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, or AT&T). Since they are the ones giving you access to the Internet, it's their role to assign an IP address to your computer. Your Internet activity goes through them, and they route it back to you, using your IP address.

But don't get attached to it. Don't tattoo your IP address to your arm, because it's not really yours. Even at home it can change if you do something as simple as turn your modem or router on and off. Or you can contact your Internet service provider and they can change it for you.

You can't take it with you.

Plus, if you go on vacation and take along your laptop, your home IP address doesn't go with you. It can't, because on vacation you'll be using another network to connect to the Internet.

So, when you're at a coffee shop in another city or state (or just down the road) and you're using their WiFi to get your email, you're using a different (and temporary) IP address, one assigned to your laptop on the fly by the ISP for that coffee shop's Internet provider.

Same thing happens when you travel. As you move from the airport to your hotel to the local coffee house, your IP address will change each and every time.

More here

So apparently you should have another IP at work. If Frank really DARES to let you vanish, you should be able to contact us through your other accout (I know it's out there :P)

Okay, that's it. I really have no idea what else might help.

I'm not going down without a bloody fight! After I finished with Sky I sent another Email back to LJ telling them what Sky said I'm just waiting for an answer.

Also Stir has told me I'm the third person with Sky Broadband who has had trouble with LJ, so perhaps this is one of those glitches. I'll just have to monitor this for a while.

I hate to worry you, but I don't think it would let me on with my other account as LJ wasn't even letting me get to the login prompt. I'll just have to go down the route of turning the modem on and off.

Another good free one is Adaware from Lavasoft and it doesn't block address like avg has been known to do.

Thank you for the advice I'll look into it for Steve.

No, you're not allowed to vanish!!!
I'm afraid I know absolutely diddly squat about IP addresses and such matters. It sounds to me like you need to contact Lj, tell them what Sky said, and ask them what the fricking hell they're talking about?

*Kicks Lj* :(

I'm going to do everything I can to stuck around, although I might start collecting email addresses just in case!

I sent a reply back to LJ about what Sky said, and I'm waiting for an answer.

You're the second person I've seen with this problem today, and the third person with Sky broadband that are having a problem logging into Livejournal.

Hi there, thank you for that information, I might try sending this to LJ and see what they say to that.

It's LJ being shit, basically. I had problems posting links recently so I contacted support and they said they "unblocked" my IP address and wanted a list of links I was trying to post because *they* say they're unsafe sites. This is bullshit for 2 reasons:

#1 - I had to re-boot my router because of BT pigging about all over the show, laltely, so it was a brand new IP address...how is that banned when it's literally *just* come into the world?!

#2 - the sites I was trying to link to were perfectly legit and ones I regularly link to - Twitter, Photobucket...and get this, LIVEJOURNAL, so unless they're saying that all of these sites (including their own!) are unsafe, I think they need new tech people who aren't trained monkeys... :/ They basically don't know what's going on. I'm kinda surprised they didn't tell you just to re-boot! lol

Checking for malware is always a good idea. I have Spybot Search & Destroy, superAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and even a Windows anti-malware software(Windows-KB890830). Yeah, call me paranoid, but they ALWAYS find something, even though most of the time it's ads from sites like Amazon or e-bay. I have an ad blocker but they still come up.

Hope you're sorted now! :)

Thanks for all of this, it really helps. I now know that LJ is being a pillock again, and will bear it mind in the future.
