Here I go again!
Friends, Romans, Fl*sters, yesterday I had a picture of Jensen playing the dark and brooding vigilante. Today I'm going for the ultimate American hero, our boy as Captain America, a man out of time.

I still think he would've made an awesome Steve Rogers.

Okay, so, when trying to fade two images together, your best bet is either gradient changing one of the images to B&W because that gives you more scope for the areas in which to work, and they won't show too many extra lines underneath, or shifting the images slightly and layering them onto a black background so you don't have them underneath/over the top of each other directly.

what I did here as a quicky rough example is, I turned both Jensen and Cap B&W, made Jensen slightly larger than Cap so he would be off to one side, then put the captain on a white background (you can see I've filled in his edges, badly at this time of the day, lol, in white, or the colour of the whitest part of the image) then layered him on top of Jensen and faded him out.

I think you're doing really well considering this is just something you play with occasionally.
