A little bit fed up
Friends, Romans, Fl*sters, just to warn you all this is not my normal happy babbling kind of post so if you want to scroll on by that's fine.  As you may be aware I've having a few digestive issues as in I've got almost constant heartburn, I'm on acid supressing medication which to be fair isn't doing all that much. I've been and had several tests including an endoscopy and a PH Test which was all sorts of fun and finally today I got to see my consultant.

Well to be fair I didn't see the consultant, I saw a doctor who worked with him and I was told that yes I was suffering from symptoms, but these symptoms were not severe enough to warrant surgery.  He then suggested anti anxiety medication, and I said I wasn't keen on the idea, his response was it was entirely up to me and I quote, "I can understand what you are saying, but if you have a medicial emergency and you are driving your car at forty miles an hour in a thirty mile an hour zone, it is just something you have to do." So in other words take the tablets and stop whinging. I also pointed out that long use of the medication I'm on can cause Osteoporosis, again he shrugged his shoulders and asked if I wanted quality of life.

He did suggest trying a low FODMAP diet and maybe hypnotherapy which I'll have to pay for myself. I've been looking at the FODMAP diet and not only is it very restrictive, but a lot of the foods on their can trigger reflux! talk about catch 22, so I've got to go away and try to figure out what to do next. I think I'll try  the diet out of desperation, I've already cut out a lot of foods what's a few more?

I appreciate there is no hard and fast cure for reflux but it just seems they are not interested, and they discharged me from the hospital so I'm stuck with my GP.

Seriously I'm just bloody fed up of the whole thing.

Oh that just sucks - so sorry to hear that you're still putting up with this, and I can totally get why you're frustrated. I mean, it's good that there is no 'sinister' reason for this, but even so, it's a miserable thing to live with. I'd never heard of a FODMAP diet, but I've just looked it up on google - I hope it can help you x

I'm sorry to hear about what's going on. I have a lot of friends that seem to be going through these sorts of things. Can you try a different doctor? sometimes they have different ideas.

I had all sorts of issues when I was younger (in my 20's) and I was on several things for acid and after years I found a doctor that made a few suggestions and after a while and a diet change I was able to stop taking everything.

You have to find what works for you and a lot of doctors don't take the time to figure it out because insurance companies want them to rush you in and out ASAP. They just find a medicine that may help and send you on the way. Good luck with it all. I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry your not getting the relief you are in so need of. I wish I could offer some insight but there are only so many anti-reflux meds out there and I have a feeling you have probably tried them all!

I wish you the best in your quest for relief!!

Fucking stupid fucking hospital docs and GP's. Seriously. If it effects you in such a way they NEED to do something more concrete and not just fob you off. Some medical professionals couldn't find their arse with both hands! *hugs*

I'm not surprised your frustrated and fed up, that is such an unhelpful response from the hospital. It must be awful to have constant reflux and have to watch what you eat all the time.

"I've been looking at the FODMAP diet and not only is it very restrictive, but a lot of the foods on their can trigger reflux! talk about catch 22..." This is SO FECKING TYPICAL!!

And it's awful that you'd have to pay for hypnotherapy, not even knowing if it will be helpful.

I feel so sorry for you, I wish there was a cure out there for you. In the meantime, sending you a big hug xxx
