Friends, Romans, Fl*sters, how are we doing this January? I thought it was time to make an appearance here and see what’s going on, and tell you what I’ve been up to. It’s good to see that there’s still life in Live Journal yet, and I’m hoping that’ll I’ll be posting some more this year, who knows I might even manage to write something.
As for me I arrived back at work on the second to discover a pile of books on my desk! It was the whole Stargate Atlantis Legacy series. My boss had lefty them for me, we’ve been chatting about a shared love of the show and after he’d moved hose he’d found the books and decided to give them to me. When I asked if he was sure he said his girlfriend wasn’t interested and when his son was old enough he’d probably go “What’s a book?” So rather than see them gather dust or end up in a charity shop, he decided to give them to someone who’d appreciate them. How cool is that?
So that was work, what else has happened, my long suffering other half has cut his hours at work he only works four days now, I think he’s getting ready to retire, he’s counting down the days to his sixty fifth birthday…only four more to go! Looks like I’m the main bread winner now! Panic who’s panicking?
Before I do my usual measured response to the situation, you know sitting by candlelight and living on beans on toast, Steve dragged me off to the cinema muttering “We’re not on the breadline yet…breathe.” Ok so maybe I overreacted a bit!
We went to see The Greatest Showman, and trust me it’s the perfect antidote to the January blues and wibbling Fan Girls *G*. I’ll be the first to admit I’m useless at reviews, but I loved the film. Who cares if it’s historically inaccurate? It’s full of warmth and heart and its message is tolerance and acceptance which is so relevant today.
Hugh Jackman is phenomenal, he has a wonderful voice and his dancing is brilliant, he gives Barnum a warmth and charisma. In fact, the whole cast is amazing, I even liked Zac Efron! The soundtrack is brilliant full of great songs. On the way back from the cinema me and Steve were talking about which song summed up the movie, Steve suggested this one.
The Greatest Show
Which is understandable, it’s upbeat and it captures the feel of the circus. But for me there was another song that was not only the show stopper, but I think it’s an anthem for anyone who has ever felt out of place…a freak! And that’s something I have felt on more than one occasion it is this song it’s powerful, uplifting and the words are something else.
This is Me.
See! Well that’s all for now, hopefully I’ll be back again soon.
