On a grey miserable Tuesday, I have a question.
Friends, Romans, Fl*sters, as you cower under your furniture fear not. I’m just interrupting your Tuesday with a question.  As I sit at my desk and stare morosely at the dull, dank , grey day outside.  I can’t help but ponder (don’t worry I’ll clean up later) what brightens my day at times like these.

I was wondering if there is a film, or TV Show that brightens such days?  You know the film that you can curl up on your settee, and watch over and over again and it always makes you feel warm and snugly.  Yes in case you’re wondering, I am capable of such emotion. Llook I have to take a break from torturing Dean and Jensen occasionally.

I should imagine you’re all thinking that my snugly films includes the sounds of gun fire, or swords clashing or Superheroes striding purposefully across the screen. You know the likes of Lord of the Rings, The Avengers, Thor, Wolverine, and Wacky Races. But no I have a deep dark secret, the film that brings me endless joy no matter how often I watch is........

Yes the shame of it, not a gun battle or Orc in sight.  Instead there is the magic of old Hollywood.  It has it all comedy, dance, I won’t talk about the romance, but most of all it has Gene Kelly. Yes I have a soft spot for that man, and it’s all because of the old Saturday afternoon films on BBC2

This is the film I love to watch with Steve on the settee drinking hot chocolate.  In fact Christmas Day 2012, my highlights were watching Singing in the rain, then Tangled and finally Doctor Who, bloody marvellous day that.

Now before I slink away hanging my head with shame, I admit I even toyed with attempting a J2 version of the film. I can see it now, Jared as Don Lockwood the dashing movie star.  Chad Michael Murray as Cosmo Brown his best friend, and Tom Welling as Lena Lamont.  The stunning movie star with the voice of Orville the duck on helium.

I even had Jensen down as Kathy Seldon, only a bit more macho and the voice to die for.

There you go a Fic of mine, with hardly any angst, no battered Jensen and full of fluff. Ye Gods what was I thinking? What is the world coming to?

Now I’ll let you get back to your Tuesday.

One of my most favourite films is 'The Dish'.

It's an Australian film (and I adore the Aussie sense of humour) and it's about the Parkes Radio Telescope which is located near Sydney and its involvement in the moon walk.

It's got a gorgeous, mellow late sixties soundtrack and it's all about how the residents of smalltown Australia cope with suddenly being thrust onto the world stage.

It's funny, sweet, irreverent and I could never tire of watching it!

101% recommended as a feelgood movie :)

You know day I'm going to have to watch that film. The dish does appeal to me, it's just waiting to catch it on TV next time it's on.

See we all have a comforting feelgood movie to watch when it's cold outside.

When it comes to mushy, fluffy films I've got a bunch that I like, but top of my list has to be Pleasantville (wonderful b/w to color, bit of sweet romance, bit of action, idk self-realization(?)), and Strictly Ballroom (Australian, gentle romance, funny bits, scheming, dreaming, and, of course, dancing!).

And a J2 fic based on Singing in the Rain!!! Please tell me that you're going to write it!
sasha_dragonsasha_dragon on October 22nd, 2013 04:26 pm (UTC)
We all have a film that make us feel good, and this time of year is when you need to break it out and enjoy it.

I keep thinking about a J2 version, just minus the singing, I might even change Cosmo and Lena. But it could be fun *G*

I'm embarrassed to admit I've never seen Singing in the Rain. I adore the song, though! The only other song that probably makes me as happy, is the laughter song from Mary Poppins. I have no idea what its called, but its brilliant.

I can't think of a movie that I've seen over and over. There's probably more than one, but the only thing that comes to mind right now is Love Actually. I have this awful habit of just putting on a movie and fast forwarding to the bits I enjoy most. :B

sasha_dragonsasha_dragon on October 22nd, 2013 04:28 pm (UTC)
Hey don't be embarrassed, as I said Saturday afternoons on BBC2 there was alwyas the chance you'd see it *G*.

I think it's more a case of somehting that lifts the spirits at the dark time of year. Supernatural helps too, but sometimes a little fluff is just the thing.

Yes I'm guilty of the old fast forwarding to favortie parts of films too.

I must confess one of my all time favourite movies is Singin' In The Rain. It has everything a good film should have. I'm never tired of watching it.

Another confession... I actually did some artwork as J2 version for this film to spn_cinema this year.

As you may notice, I too see Jared as Don Lockwood and Jensen as Kathy. In my version, Misha is Cosmo and Mark P is Lena.

Anyway, I'd LOVE to read your J2 version!!!

I can't help myself I adore that film, and ye I never tire of seeing it.

I saw your artwork and I loved it, and you know Misha would make a brilliant Cosmo.

Who knows maybe I'll cave and write it one day *G*

On my phone atm but I'll be back later...mwahahahaaazz! ;)

The things that immediately come to mind *makes sure no-one's looking* film wise, Mrs Doubtfire. Makes me laugh and cry but I always end up with a smile. Same with Mannequin...cheesy but good! :D Pirates of the Caribbean, because helloooo, Johnny Depp! I'm not into romcoms so snuggly isn't something I can comment on. Maybe later!

Hey there, I look forward to hearing from you later.

Hey I'm not here to judge, I'm here to find out what makes people happy *G*

Besides I've got my own soft spot for those films *smirk*.

I agree with the poster who suggested 'Strictly Ballroom' - it's absolutely brilliant. Other ones for me would be 'Restless Natives' - a wee 'Robin Hood' style Scottish film with a great soundtrack by Big Country, I'd love to see a J2 version of this! - or 'Some Like It Hot' - one of the best comedies ever!

It's a great film, lots of fun, and I'll have to look out for Restless Natives. I totally agree with Some Like It Hot, it really is one of the best comedies ever.

Three candidates for you (yes I'm late)

1)Princess Bride
2)Valentines day (waits for the collective yell but it makes me smile and cry and sigh every time)
3) The Holiday

And I third stictly ballroom, awesome film.

You're never late *G*

Good films, as I say this is all about what makes you happy. We each love different films for different reasons.

I should imagine you’re all thinking that my snugly films includes the sounds of gun fire, or swords clashing or Superheroes striding purposefully across the screen. You know the likes of Lord of the Rings...

I actually have to go with Lord of the Rings. It is my favorite after all. But the reason I have to name it here is that it's a ritual of my sister and me. Every other sunday we meet at my home, make ourselves comfortable on my big couch and watch one part. The thing is most of the time we fall asleep while watching but it's this comfy, lazy, me and my sister thing! And if we watched the last part we start from the beginning.

I've a lot of videos and I think in aaaaaall of them are gun battles, orcs or blood! I'm a huge sucker for the films with tragic heroes (Braveheart, Gladiator, Armageddon...you see the pattern there? Hello Dean Winchester!).

If I had to name something without some blood I have to go with...pssssssst, don't tell...Disney movies, like Brother Bear or The Lion King, Finding Nemo!! I LOVE THEM!!! :D

Look I have to take a break from torturing Dean and Jensen occasionally. Nope, that won't do, nope. I'm just ignoring that part!!
sasha_dragonsasha_dragon on October 24th, 2013 12:22 pm (UTC)
Lord of the Rings, a truly marvelous series of films and I love em.

Ahh the tagice hero, and yes I'm looking at you Dean what is it that appeals about them? Their strength, honour in the fsct they look so bloody hot when they're broken *waves at Dean*

nothing wrong with the odd Disney movies, as I've said we like what we like.

Ok I can take a hint, back to the torturing then!

*hides* I've taken over your LJ!

But movies are a passion and I can't help talking about them.

So I've seconded/thirded/fourthed:

Love Actually
Strictly Ballroom
Princess Bride (John Sheppard isn't above watching this one)

But my personal choices for a snuggly rainy day guilty pleasure are:

"The Love Letter" starring Campbell Scott and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
The inherent beauty in the idea that you can meet the love of your life across the chasm of time, write letters and converse with someone you are never to meet - until you do...yeah, that does it for me on so many levels.

"The Lake House" starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock.
More letters across time and I can so see Joe Flanigan in the leading man role. Beautiful "can you imagine" sense to this movie that's beautifully filmed (by the guy who directed HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban).

"Sleeping Beauty"
My favourite Disney movie. If you can get the 50th aniversary remastered edition, that's the best. Fantastic artwork and the prince in this, Phillip, doesn't wait around for her to find him, he goes after what he wants, he doesn't wear lipstick and doesn't spend his entire day singing. The fairies are hilarious in their own right and Maleficent is FANTASTIC!

So those would be my choices, snuggled up under a mink blanket, cup of marshmallow topped hot chocolate and a stash of your favourite junk food and your set.

Great post, hun :D
